.) The packrat mindset needs to go. All unnecessary clutter and junk should be disposed of, in order to make room for things that are actually useful and important. Sort your items into piles - useful, has sentimental value, and junk. You'd be surprised to see how much space you can have if you do away with all the old useless junk. Better yet, have a garage sale, and make money off the pieces you no longer use. Your trash could be another's treasure.
.) Look at your existing furniture for possible storage options. A lot of modern furniture often has space utility built into their design such as couches with hidden drawers underneath, side tables which could also double as a magazine rack, etc.
.) Remember those gigantic Balikbayan boxes you get periodically from relatives abroad? Use these to store items you don't want to let go of yet, but have no place for, such as old dolls, items from your childhood, tapestries, etc. Wrap these in sealable vacuum plastic bags so you could suck out the air, thus maximizing space.
.) Sort out your closet according to the current weather. For summer months of March to May, put all your light, thin clothes, swimsuits and shorts on the most visible area of your closet. Stow away your jackets, raincoats and long sleeved shirts at the back, and switch the order when the rainy months come pouring in.
.) Save space in the bedroom by keeping your storage boxes under the bed. Guitar cases, comic book boxes, board games, and boxes containing seldom used clothes are stackable and can easily fit under a regular bed.. You could also save space on bag storage by packing them Russian-doll style, by putting small bags in oversized bags, and placing them all inside a big suitcase or luggage.
.) Use hanging storage organizers to save space. These often only need to be attached using suction cups or mounted on well-placed nails. Having storage that isn't planted on the ground also helps save floor space and reduces clutter.
.) To save up on kitchen drawer space, why not use decorative cans and boxes to hold your kitchen utensils like, baking spoons, spatulas, graters, etc.? Do a Russian-doll storage on pots and pans of varying sizes, and use a large dish rack to store all the lids like plates.
.) For the bathroom, try using plastic wine racks to store rolled up towels. You could also use a mesh organizer for your shampoos and body scrubs, which could then be hung alongside your shower curtain to save on space.
